Medical Assistant Training at Globe University-La Crosse

As a medical assistant, you will need technical skills, medical knowledge and a wealth of compassion. You may teach people how to take medications, care for wounds or modify their diets. You may be the first and last person a patient sees when visiting a clinic or doctor’s office. You may be the person patients ask for when they call the clinic.

Globe University-La Crosse will provide training to prepare you for this challenging and rewarding career.

Medical assistant degree and diploma programs

We offer two programs that prepare students for positions as medical assistants in clinics, hospitals and labs:

·         Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Medical Assistant (21 months)

·         Medical Assistant Diploma (15 months)

Students study anatomy, hematology, pharmacology, radiology and medical office procedures. AAS students also take general education courses that prepare them to interact with patients of diverse backgrounds and strengthen analytic and communication skills.

A graduate of either the associate or diploma program is prepared to take the certification exam for Certified Medical Assistant and the Limited Scope of Practice in Radiology exam offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Students may apply for our Professional Certification Scholarship that defrays the costs of these exams.

Careers in medical assisting

Graduates of our medical assistant programs look forward to positions where they perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Take medical histories
  • Help physicians with exams
  • Teach care and treatment procedures to patients
  • Take x-rays as ordered by physicians
  • Prepare blood and tissue samples for analysis
  • Record patient information using the records system
  • Perform office tasks

Programs designed by medical professionals

We developed our medical assisting programs with the help of a program advisory committee made up medical assistants, nurses and clinic administrators. These professionals know what is important for students to learn for today’s jobs, not yesterday’s. The committee also reviews the programs regularly so that we continue to offer what students need for success as medical assistants.
